Safety related to the use of the marine environment by humans is one of INRH's main tasks, supported by a health monitoring network set up and established along the coast. Its purpose is to ensure continuous monitoring of shellfish aquaculture areas and consumer protection. It also provides information and scientific tools needed for assessments of the state of the coastal environment with respect to chemical, microbiological and phytoplankton toxins. The monitoring protocols meet national and international health requirements (notably those in force on the EU market) under the MAPM Circular on the conditions of production and placing on the market of live bivalve molluscs No 1508 / 12 of 15/08/2012.
